Design Goals

Summer Project | 2024

Create a system to organize and store change in a portable way for servers.

Research

Q: “What were the biggest issues you dealt with when handling cash in a restaurant atmosphere?”

“Trying to count and give the correct amount of change during peak times”

“Not having a good space to put it. I was always scared I was going to lose cash when I pulled out my server book”

“Time crunches. You need to be quick at tables and it would always slow me down rummaging through my change trying to find the right bills. They stick together and can be hard to spot specific bills when in a hurry.”

“Keeping the different bills separated. I didn’t want to accidentally give someone a 10 instead of a one.”

Product Comparison

My first round of 3d printing from a Fusion360 file uncovered issues with the forms. The rounded edges were helpful in making the sorter less likely to poke someone’s hands, but the typeface was hard to read, and the vertical format of the dollar sorter got in the way of moving around.
